Ronnie fails to sell portrait on eBay
Ronnie Wood, the Rolling Stone turned painter, appears to be the only person who is not benefiting from the sustained boom in the contemporary art market. The other day, he put one of his works, a limited edition portrait of his pre-Rolling Stones band The Faces, featuring Rod Stewart, up for sale on the internet auction site eBay. He had reason to be hopeful, having successfully sold work this way before, and he even plugged the work on his Facebook site, writing: "We had such a great reaction from the last listing. So here it is again: Your chance to snap up a real Ronnie print framed and ready to be hung, featuring your favourite rocker and pal Rod."
But despite this emotional plea, things did not go as expected. With the reserve price set at £1,300, the piece attracted only five bidders – and a maximum offer of just £511. Wood has now withdrawn the offer, and the entry on Faceboook. But don't despair for him, he still has his day job.
