Jessica Simpson targeted by Peta

Jessica Simpson has been singled out for attack by the animal rights organisation Peta (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). The singer and actress, best known for her role in the comedy Blonde Ambition, was recently photographed wearing a T-shirt bearing the slogan "Real Girls Eat Meat". Peta, sensing a means of using Simpson to highlight their campaign, used this photo for a poster, changing the T-shirt caption to "Only Stupid Girls Eat Meat", and listing underneath it "five reasons only stupid girls eat meat".

Alistair Currie, a spokesman for Peta, said: "Jessica Simpson might have a right to wear what she wants, but she doesn't have a right to eat what she wants. Eating meat is about suffering and death. Some people feel like they are standing up against a tide of political correctness when they make a statement like this what she is really doing is standing up for the status quo."

However, it seems Peta might have been a little hasty. It transpires that the T-shirt was just a light-hearted dig at her boyfriend Tony Romo's ex-girlfriend, Carrie Underwood, who is a vegetarian. (Continued below)
