In brief: Rafael Nadal celebrates his Wimbledon triumph

After beating Roger Federer in what some are saying was Wimbledon’s greatest ever men’s singles final, Rafael Nadal tipped up at the Wimbledon Ball, held at the All England Club last night. Unfortunately, by the time he arrived – well after midnight – all of the food was gone. The Spaniard didn’t seem too bothered, though, choosing to take the floor with one arm around an unidentified dance partner, and the other around the prized Wimbledon trophy…Jodie Kidd, the supermodel who lost a £250,000 contract with Marks & Spencer after she was caught on camera allegedly selling cocaine to an undercover reporter, has been dropped by her modeling agency, Independent. According to the Mail on Sunday, the reason is down to her eating habits; says a source: "She wasn't looking after herself and piled on weight eating junk food"… English Heritage have decided not to save the Liverpool house where Ringo Starr was born, meaning that it will now almost certainly be demolished. It is a strange decision. Both John Lennon and Sir Paul McCartney's former dwellings have been saved for posterity, as has a house lived in by the Beatles' first drummer, Pete BestSir Tim Rice is working on musical about Machiavelli. Asked whether he will be seeking out his former collaborator, Andrew Lloyd Webber, he said: "I've not decided who will do the music, but it won't be Andrew"… Dame Eileen Atkins claims that she rarely gets offered West End parts because of her infrequent appearances on TV. "I don't pull audiences in the West End because I haven't done one TV series after another,” she told the Sunday Telegraph, before rounding on mainstream theatre audiences. "To be honest, we're a nation of philistines. We only have the National and the RSC because theatre people are passionate and make it happen. The public doesn’t give a toss"... Angelina Jolie, currently in Nice awaiting the birth of twins, has shown her admiration for Sir Winston Churchill by tattooing her arms with the words "Tears" and "Toil", referencing his famous World War Two speech: "We have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat"…
