Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend ‘will be at war’ on US tour

The Who’s impending tour of America, for which they will receive $100m, is unlikely to be a happy affair, if you believe the New York Post. The newspaper reports that there is now so much hatred between the band’s guitarist Pete Townshend and singer Roger Daltrey (pictured together) that they no longer even acknowledge one another. Their mutual loathing has led to demands that they never be booked into the same hotel, that they should always travel separately and that they must have different staff members to attend to their private needs.

A source told the Post: "There is a lot of tension and fighting going on right now. Roger is furious with Pete. Pete has been writing all this new material and wants to perform the new stuff, but Roger wants to stick with My Generation, Won't Get Fooled Again, Pinball Wizard and other classics.”

And audiences at the shows, which begin in Detroit on October 21st, cannot expect any on stage banter – or they can, but it won’t be nice. Adds the Post's source: "They will basically show up, play, and leave."

Daltrey. 64, and Townshend, 63, are the only surviving members of the original line-up. Drummer Keith Moon died in 1978, and bassist John Entwistle died of a suspected overdose in 2002. Ringo Starr’s son, Zak Starkey, now plays drums, with John "Rabbit" Bundrick on keyboards and Pino Palladino on bass.
