In brief: Plant eyes up Mercury prize

Rock and roll dinosaur Robert Plant has made a surprise appearance on the shortlist for this year’s Mercury music prize. Plant is nominated for the usually youth-dominated prize for his critically acclaimed country roots album Raising Sand, last year with Alison Krauss. Other (younger) artists on the shortlist include Adele, Burial and The Last Shadow Puppets... Amy Winehouse's husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, has been jailed for 27 months for attacking a pub landlord and perverting the course of justice. He had been expected to be freed, having already spent nine months on remand prior to the trial. Winehouse, 24, was not present at the hearing… A US appeal court has rescinded a $550,000 fine imposed on CBS for screening Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" – her breast popped out of her costume - during 2004's Super Bowl concert. Three judges ruled the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) watchdog "acted arbitrarily and capriciously" in levying the fine… Ricky Gervais has announced that there will be a Russian version of his hit BBC comedy The Office. There are rumours it will be set in the offices of the former KGB…Peaches Geldof, the 19 year-old daughter of Bob Geldof, has been treated by paramedics after a suspected drugs overdose at her home. The part time DJ and model is said to have had to be revived by a friend who gave her the kiss of life as they waited for the emergency services. Her mother, Paula Yates, died of an overdose in 2000...A woman has admitted in court to harassing David Walliams, one part of the Little Britain duo, over a four-year period. Sarah Bartholomew, 29, sent a stream of letters, e-mails and gifts to the comedian, and texted his agent saying: "I need his baby." Highbury Corner Magistrates Court decided she should remain in custody while psychiatric experts decide what form of hospital treatment she needs... The late Humphrey Lyttleton, jazz trumpeter and host of Radio 4's I'm Sorry I Haven’t a Clue, was named artist of the year at the BBC Jazz Awards...
