In brief: Rielle rules out paternity test

Rielle Hunter (pictured), the woman who had an extramarital affair with the former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, has ruled out a paternity test for her baby daughter, after Edwards claimed he was prepared to be tested. Hunter's lawyer said she was a "private" person, who was "not running for public office"... Doris Day, the 1950s and 1960s box office queen, is attempting to bury her past. The veteran of 39 films such as Calamity Jane and Young At Heart, now a grand 84 (or 86, if some sources are to be believed), has changed her name to Clara Kappelhoff (she was born Doris Mary Ann Kappelhoff), and is living reclusively on an 11-acres “fortress-like” ranch in rural California, according to the Daily Mail. Almost unrecognisable, she is, pace Brigitte Bardot, batty about animals and is only seen by neighbours when she emerges to round up stray cats and dogs to take back to her estate. She won a lifetime Grammy earlier this year but refused to attend the ceremony...Isaac Hayes, the soul singer and composer who has died aged 65, will be best remembered for his theme music for the 1971 film, Shaft. But a darker episode dogged his final years. In 1997, he became the voice of Chef, the sensible school cook and ladies’ man in South Park. But he resigned in anger in 2006 after an episode mocked his Scientology religion, complaining: “There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of others begins."... The Doctor Who actor David Tennant, who, as The First Post reported, has won a full deck from the critics for his debut as Hamlet with the Royal Shakespeare Company, has not always had success so easily. The 37-year-old Scottish actor auditioned 16 times for a part, any part, in the long-running TV series Taggart when he was younger and was rejected on each occasion. “I’m the only Scottish actor alive who hasn’t been in Taggart,” he moaned...
