Was John McCain whipped by gays?

There is little that is not known about the five years John McCain spent as a prisoner of war in Vietnam. Not so. The website Queerty – slogan: free of an agenda, except that gay one – have seized on overlooked personal account the Republican nominee gave of his experiences to US News & World Report back in 1973, a time when he was something of media sensation in the US. In the article, McCain accuses his captors of being homosexuals who derived pleasure from whipping him.

McCain wrote: "Now I don’t hate them any more — not these particular guys. I hate and detest the leaders. Some guards would just come in and do their job. When they were told to beat you they would come in and do it. Some seemed to get a big bang out of it. A lot of them were homosexual, although never toward us. Some, who were pretty damned sadistic, seemed to get a big thrill out of the beatings."

Blogging site Gawker have now picked up on the story and have demanded answers to the following questions. One: "How did McCain know they were gay if they weren't gay "toward him"?". Two: "Were the homosexuals the ones who enjoyed the beatings or were the sadists a separate category?"
