Jimmy Page gets Led Zep back in the studio
Those monsters of rock and roll excess, Led Zeppelin - or at least what’s left of the line-up - are apparently back in the studio, writing and recording music that could become the band’s first album in more than 25 years. A reunion has been on the cards since the band’s "one-off" performance at the 02 Arena in London last December, though few expected this to result in any new music from the group.
Jimmy Page, fresh from his axe-grinding at the Beijing Olympics handover ceremony, and bass player John Paul Jones, have been joined in the studio by Jason Bonham, the son of the band’s former drummer John Bonham, who died in 1980 after a heavy drinking binge. Robert Plant (pictured with band centre stage), erstwhile lead singer, has not been involved in any of the sessions.
Speaking on a Detroit rock station, Jason Bonham said: "At the moment, all I know is I have the great pleasure to go and jam with the two guys and start work on some material. When I get there [in the studio] I never ask any questions. If I get a phone call to go and play, I enjoy every moment of it. Whatever it ends up as, to ever get a chance to jam with two people like that, it is a phenomenal thing for me. It’s my life. It's what I've dreamed about doing."
But he warned fans not to get too excited; "lots of politics" would need to get "ironed out" before any album would come of it.
Whole lotta love for Led Zep reunionADVERTISEMENT
