John Galliano goes tribal on the catwalk in Paris
John Galliano went tribal at his Paris Fashion Week show for Christian Dior yesterday, with an African-inspired collection full of cowrie-shell studded bustiers, sculptural head-dresses and stilettos shaped like fertility goddesses. Short and sexy was also a recurring theme, with mid-thigh minis and see-through dresses - a far cry from the demurely elegant outfits he designed for France's first lady, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, on her trip to Britain earlier this year.
Dior's young, rich celebrity fanbase was in evidence in the front row in the tent at Les Tuileries. Guests included Oscar-winning French actress Marion Cotillard and Lily Allen, Dita von Teese and Katy Perry (pictured, left to right).
Another British designer showing on the Parisian catwalks yesterday was Vivienne Westwood, who dressed models in reams of taffeta and gladiator sandals.
