In brief: Lights dimmed for Newman

The lights of all the theatres on Broadway are to be dimmed tonight in honour of Paul Newman (pictured), the Hollywood star who died from cancer last Friday aged 83. The tribute will take place all along the streets fanning off Broadway and Times Square ………… The pop singer Will Young has been invited to appear on the BBC political programme Question Time………… Tina Turner, aged 68, has embarked on a farewell tour of the US………….J K Rowling is reported to have earnt more than £3m each week - that's five pounds every second - in the past year from her Harry Potter books. This has secured her place as the highest-earning author in the world, according to Forbes magazine.............
