George Michael reveals his gallery plans at the Frieze Art Fair

Given the economic gloom it was perhaps not surprising that sales at the preview of London’s Frieze Art Fair yesterday were not brisk as usual. But this did not stop a cluster of celebrities from tipping up at the preview party last night in Regent's Park. Amongst those roaming around the 150-plus stands were Charles Saatchi (right), Lily Allen, Sofia Coppola and Dasha Zhukova. She was without her boyfriend Roman Abramovich who, having reportedly seen £12bn shaved off his fortune, is probably putting his art buying on hold.

There appeared to be no such worries for George Michael (left) and his partner Kenny Goss, who revealed that he and the singer are planning to build a new 10,000 square foot gallery in Dallas for their collection of British contemporary art. "Our plan is to have one of the most interesting contemporary art spaces in the United States," said Goss.

The couple have been buying art for 11 years and own work by more than 40 British artists, among them Jake and Dinos Chapman, Gilbert & George and Bridget Riley, with an estimated value of over $200m. Goss added bullishly: "Our collection is always expanding."
