Nicky Haslam sent up in song

When society interior designer Nicky Haslam (pictured) threw a lavish party last month for his old friend Janet de Botton at Parkstead House, Roehampton, he made one grievous error – he completely forgot to invite his old friend Christoper Sykes.

As a riposte to this apparent snub, Sykes, the author of a biography of the rock star Eric Clapton and talented amateur musician, has written a song sending up Haslam and posted it on the video-sharing website YouTube. Clearly he's very peeved. One line goes: "All stories about this amusing caper/make every inch of the tabloid papers/bringing good cheer to those who have been invited and misery to those who feel they've been slighted."

Another line alludes to Haslam homosexuality. "Now Hicky gives an interview to Casandra Jardine/tries her very best not be mean/but when Nicky says it's going to be the world's biggest bender she can't help asking if there isn't an agenda."
