Obama fights to keep his BlackBerry

US President Barack Obama

Although he does not enter the White House until January 20, Barack Obama appears to have already locked horns with the American Secret Service. The issue? Whether or not he gets to keep his beloved BlackBerry which has been ruled out of bounds on grounds of security and presidential archive rules.

Speaking to ABC's Barbara Walters on Tuesday, Obama was asked how he felt about losing the device, to which he is said to be addicted and which was in his hand throughout his presidential campaign (he calls it his 'berry', rather than the more street moniker, 'Crackberry').

Said Obama: "I, you know, one of the things that I'm going to have to work through is how to break through the isolation ... the bubble that exists around the president. And I'm in the process of negotiating with the Secret Service, with lawyers, with White House staff ..."

Walters then asked, "You might have a Blackberry, then?" To which, the future president replied: "Well, I'm, I'm negotiating to figure out how can I get information from outside of the 10 or 12 people who surround my office in the White House. Because, one of the worst things I think that could happen to a president is losing touch with what people are going through day to day."
