Kidman talks more about quitting acting
Nicole Kidman (pictured) has given her clearest statement yet about her desire to quit acting. In an interview in today's Daily Telegraph, given to promote her latest film Australia, the 41-year-old actress said: "I have to say I'm not that interested in making films any more. I know I'm not meant to say that, but that's where it is for me now.”
The interview comes a day after fellow Australian Germaine Greer lambasted the film in the Guardian, calling Baz Luhrmann’s epic ‘fatuous’ and ‘unforgivable’ among other things. Whether Kidman had read her Guardian before chatting to the Telegraph, we do not know, but she went on: "I'm 41 years old and very happy being in Tennessee with my baby and with my husband.
“I obviously have creative blood in me and it needs to come out in some way but I just don't have that burning desire any more. I'm not saying I'm never going to work again, but I'm at peace with whatever happens, which is a nice place to be at this stage of my life."
Kidman spoke last month about her desire to spend more time with her family - she and her husband, Keith Urban, already have one daughter, Sunday Rose, and she has two adopted children from her first marriage to Tom Cruise – but this is the first time she has elaborated on what at first appeared an off-the-cuff remark.
She revealed she had no definite projects lined up for the future, having just finished a two-week stint filming a small role in the musical Nine, which also stars Daniel Day-Lewis, Judi Dench, Penelope Cruz and Sophia Loren.
However, the Australian actress did admit one as yet unfulfilled acting ambition. "One day I'll take that James Bond film. That'll be fun."
