Daniel Craig braves the cold to attend premiere of Defiance
Daniel Craig, accompanied by his girlfriend Satsuki Mitchell (both pictured), braved sub-zero temperatures on Tuesday night to attend the London premiere of Edward Zwick's World War Two film, Defiance, which records the true story of resistance fighters in Belarus.
The movie, which also stars Jamie Bell and Liev Schreiber, focuses on three Jewish brothers, the Bielskis, who escape Nazi-occupied Poland and take refuge in the woods they have known since childhood. From there they begin to fight back against the Nazis and are joined in battle by men and women of all ages.
For Craig, who recently shrugged off the bad reviews for his last outing as James Bond in Quantum of Solace, it was a must-do movie. He said last night: "We didn't do it for the money, we did it because we loved doing it. We had a laugh - we had to. As soon as I read the material I saw it was something I wanted to get involved in and expose to the world."
Edward Zwick said there was a sense of urgency about telling stories about the war, and more particularly the Holocaust, while survivors were still alive. "This is the 11th hour," he said. "The last survivors at this moment will within five or 10 years all be gone."
