Vivienne Westwood wants to make sequel to Sex and the City

Fashion designer Dame Vivienne Westwood (right) is attempting to persuade the producers of the hit movie Sex and the City to adopt her plot ideas for the sequel. Although plans are already underway for a follow-up - as reported here, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis (pictured left to right), are on the verge of signing contracts - the 67-year-old fashion queen has written to the producers asking them to use her ideas.

Westwood has made no secret of her disdain for the original movie. When it was released last year she publicly criticised stylist Patricia Field's clothes designs, saying: "I thought Sex and the City was supposed to be about cutting-edge fashion and there was nothing remotely memorable or interesting about what I saw. I went to the premiere and left after ten minutes." Which was slightly embarrassing, given that she has designed the red dress Cattrall wore to the premiere and had designed the wedding dress to be worn by Jessica Parker at the climax of the movie.

A source close to the designer told the Independent: "She's been obsessed with the film ever since she was it. She has even put in calls to [the lead actress] Sarah Jessica Parker about it." But the feedback has not been encouraging. A spokesman for Dame Vivienne said: "We haven't had any news about it yet. So we don't know what's happening."

Given that the first Sex and the City film grossed more than £300 million worldwide, it’s possible the film producers don't think they need her help.
