In brief: Oasis banned from China

British rock band Oasis have been forced to cancel two planned concerts in Beijing and Shanghai after Chinese authorities revoked their performance licenses, allegedly because of the group’s support for the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan freedom movement. According to the promoters, problems arose after Chinese officials discovered that Noel Gallagher (pictured) had appeared at a Tibet freedom concert, alongside U2 and Blur, in 1997………… The BBC has had to disqualify Gail Trimble and her team from Corpus Christi College, Oxford after last week's victory in the grand final of University Challenge. It transpired that one of the team, Sam Kay, was no longer a student when the later rounds of the contest were filmed. The title has been transferred to the University of Manchester............US television presenters Oprah Winfrey and Larry King are both reported to be attempting to secure interviews with Jade Goody, the cancer-stricken reality TV star, before she dies…………Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, who was accused of trying to sell Barack Obama's senate seat, has signed a "six-figure" book deal which deal with the "dark side of politics".......Melinda Gates, the wife of billionaire Microsoft founder Bill has revealed that iPods and iPhones are banned from their household. Their children have to make do with Zune players and phones running on Windows Mobile. Mrs Gates does admit the occasional moment of weakness, though: "Every now and then I look at my friends and say 'Ooh, I wouldn't mind having that iPhone'".......
