Is Murdoch gunning for Michael Wolff?

New York Post cartoon of Michael Woolf

Is Rupert Murdoch using the New York Post, which he owns, to have a go at his biographer Michael Wolff? On Monday, the paper reviewed a story that had appeared on the gossip website, Cityfile.com, which suggested Wolff had had an affair with a 28-year-old journalist called Victoria Floethe.

And today, the Post has taken matters a stage further by publishing a cartoon (pictured), in which Wolff, 55, who is married, is seen in bed with a younger women. The caption, which is bookended with lovehearts, reads: “Oh Mr Wolff, you’re books are so moral and ethical. I hope your wife appreciates them.”

Cityfile had pointed out that Floethe had been working as an intern at Vanity Fair, but now worked as a staffer at Newser.com, the website Wolff co-founded. And the Post observed that Wolff's most recent musings in Vanity Fair and Floethe's writing on Slate.com revealed that they had been in Monte Carlo at the same time.

It can only be imagined that all this has been okayed by Murdoch, who was said to be upset by certain elements of Wolff’s book, The Man Who Owns the News: Inside the Secret World of Rupert Murdoch, one of which was the revelation, made by his daughter, Prudence MacLeod, that the 77-year-old media tycoon tints his own hair to give him a less aged appearance.
