Kate Garraway ‘fury’ at Derek Draper’s ruse
One of the many women unamused by Damian McBride's proposed smear campaign, discussed in emails to LabourList blogger Derek Draper, was Draper's wife, the GMTV presenter Kate Garraway.
According to the Sunday Telegraph, Garraway (pictured) was so angry that she pulled out of a joint television appearance she and Dreaper were due to make on the forthcoming series of All Star Mr and Mrs.
A spokesman for the show said: "We were in talks about them appearing on the show, but we have been informed that they no longer wish to do so."
The newspaper quotes a friend of Garraway, who has been married to Draper since 2005 and is expecting a second child, saying the presenter was "absolutely disgusted" by her husband's behaviour "She had no idea that he was involved in this sort of thing," the friend is reported to have said.
"When she found out she was furious. The last thing she was going to do was appear on Mr and Mrs and answer questions about the secrets of their marriage."
However, according to yet another friend of the couple, it was Draper who insisted on pulling out of the show - and out of a planned guest appearance on Have I Got News for You: the second friend says Draper "didn't think it appropriate for him to appear on a light-hearted game show at this time".
