Mayor Bloomberg joins the girls for Sex and the City film version

While New Yorkers wait to see whether their independent billionaire mayor Michael Bloomberg decides to run for state governor - or even for the presidency - the man himself has professed an interest in a screen career. He's playing a cameo role - as himself - in the big film version of TV's Sex and the City. He was spotted filming this week with the four girls - Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon - around Manhattan's Bryant Park.

Quite how sexy the city girls were being is a moot point, however. Sarah Jessica Parker has just said she doesn't care that she was voted the Unsexiest Woman Alive in a poll for the lads' magazine Maxim - who compared her looks unfavourably with America's favourite horse, the late lamented Barbaro.

"It does not bother me in the least if people don't think I'm sexy," she said. "I don't think I am, either."

As for Kim Catrall, who held out for a better deal before agreeing to play the sexually adventurous Samantha in the film version, she told an interviewer: "I have such a wonderful time playing her, but I can't say more for the experience than wanting financial security.

"It was always about the money. When I made a stand about not being in the movie because I thought the money was terrible, there was a backlash of very negative things from some of my co-stars. The role is very much a double-edged sword." Ouch.
