Critics’ favourite at the Brit Awards

Nineteen-year-old Adele Atkins (above left), a teenage soul singer tipped to be the next Amy Winehouse, is the winner of the Brit Awards Critics' Choice prize, a new award designed to encourage and launch new talent. A 22-year-old singer from Wales, Duffy (above right), whose classic soul voice has been compared with Dusty Springfield, has been named runner-up. Atkins will be invited to perform at the Brit Awards ceremony next month... Welsh boxer Joe Calzaghe, the world super-middleweight champion, won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award last night, beating Formula One star Lewis Hamilton and boxer Ricky Hatton. Enzo Calzaghe, Joe's father and trainer, was named Coach of the Year... Led Zeppelin fans will undergo tight security at the band's first performance in almost 20 years as organisers enforce stringent security measures to beat ticket touts. Sellers on eBay have been asking for around £1,500 for a pair of tickets... Terry Lubbock, the father of a man found dead at the former home of entertainer Michael Barrymore, is seriously ill in hospital after collapsing over the weekend... Legendary Hollywood actor Mickey Rooney, 87, is to play the part of Cinderella's fairy godmother in panto in Sunderland...
