Harvey Weinstein weds UK love
Harvey Weinstein, the larger-than-life American film producer responsible for Shakespeare in Love, Kill Bill and The Lord of the Rings, has married his English girlfriend, Georgina Chapman, a fashion designer. The ceremony took place at Weinstein's opulent Connecticut home on Saturday night, in front of actresses Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez, film director Quentin Tarantino, American Vogue editor Anna Wintour and media mogul Rupert Murdoch. Just like an awards ceremony, those who couldn't make it through the snow gave video tributes: they included Bill and Hillary Clinton, Gwyneth Paltrow and George Clooney.
Weinstein, 55, proposed a month ago to the 31-year-old Chapman, a waif-like former model whom no one in Weinstein's circle had heard of before they began dating two years ago. Indeed, much speculation emerged during last year's award season when Chapman, who graduated from the Chelsea College of Art & Design in 2001, came out of nowhere to design gowns for Renee Zellweger, Cate Blanchett and Scarlett Johansson among others.
Her Marchesa label, which she founded in 2004 with Keren Craig - who was Chapman's maid of honor on Saturday - didn't really take off until the duo began dressing actresses who happen to call Weinstein "boss". Some fashion observers called this the "Harvey Factor". Chapman has also been given small parts in a number of films produced by The Weinstein Company - which he and his brother Bob set up in 2005 after leaving their previous company, Miramax - including Factory Girl, The Nanny Diaries and Awake.
Weinstein, nicknamed 'Harvey Scissorhands' for his penchant for trimming films he's producing, survived a heart attack in 2000. He was divorced from his first wife, Eve, with whom he has three children, in 2004.
