‘Rebel angel’ Hugo Chavez gives Naomi Campbell a scoop
Supermodel Naomi Campbell has kicked off her new career as an interviewer for men's magazine GQ with a revealing one-on-one audience with the controversial Venezuelan leader, Hugo Chavez. The outspoken left-wing leader has given GQ's new 'contributing editor' a scoop as he calls President George Bush "completely crazy", describes Cuban President Fidel Castro as the world's most stylish leader and says Camilla Parker Bowles is "not attractive".
Campbell's new role at GQ will see the Streatham-born model interview world leaders, fellow celebrity A-listers and international sports stars. Venezuala's Socialist president uses the interview to claim that Bush is out to kill him and calls the US government "genocidal". He rails about the "fall of the [US] empire" and adds somewhat cryptically: "Like the fairy-tale, the emperor [George Bush] is naked. We've seen the emperor's ass."
But when asked by Campbell to name the best-dressed world leader, Chavez, who is a firm friend of Castro, exclaims: "Fidel, of course! His uniform is impeccable. His boots are polished, his beard is elegant." Chavez also manages to get in a few questions of his own during the interview and asks Campbell if she knows Prince Charles. When the supermodel replies that she has met him and had also known Diana, Princess of Wales, Chavez declares: "I like the Prince. Now he has Camilla, his new girl. She's not attractive is she?" Campbell is understood to have conducted the interview during a visit to Chavez's Miraflores palace in Caracas in November. In GQ, she explains why she wanted to see Chavez, calling him a "rebel angel". "I'd always heard Hugo was a people's president and I wanted to see if that was true," she writes. "I didn't want to judge, or probe him for his political views, even though he gave them freely. I simply went to interview Hugo the man."
