In Town Last Night: Johnny, Helena et al at Sweeney premiere

Johnny Depp has delighted critics and fans with his singing voice in the film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's murderous musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. But at the film's London premiere he warned fans not to expect to see him singing again. The 44-year-old actor said: “It took me a while to get used to [singing] but because I had so much of it I had to get used to it. I've never done it before and I'll never do it again!”

Heavy rain in London was not enough to deter hundreds of people queueing in Leicester Square to see Hollywood's most rock'n'roll film star – and its “most gracious”, having recently topped a poll of autograph-hunters’ favourite celebs. Depp stars alongside Helena Bonham-Carter and Alan Rickman in Sweeney Todd, his sixth collaboration with director Tim Burton.
