Golden Globes TV awards: Duchovny win
The two British stars of Longford, the Channel 4/HBO docudrama that told the story of prison campaigner Lord Longford's relationship with the jailed Moors murderer Myra Hindley, both won Golden Globes last night. Samantha Morton took the best supporting TV actress gong for playing Hindley, while Jim Broadbent as Longford won for best actor in a TV film. The film also won in the best film category.
David Duchovny won best actor for the raunchy comedy Californication. Duchovny (pictured), who made his name with the X Files, later revealed he had been too nervous to watch the televised announcement. "I didn't want to watch, it would just make me tense or nervous," he said, "so I went out to see a movie. I knew if my phone was ringing when I walked into my hotel room that I would have won... Nobody calls a loser."
The veteran Hollywood actress Glenn Close won best actress in a TV drama series for her role as a lawyer in Damages. Asked where she was when she heard she'd won, she said: "I was at the Brass Monkey Bar in the Meatpacking District in New York, watching it on TV with a bunch of the cast and crew. I was drinking bourbon on the rocks. It was great. This huge cheer went up."
It was a good night for Ricky Gervais whose TV show Extras was named best TV comedy.
