Pop acts set to storm Brit awards

Pop looks set to predominate at the 2008 Brit Awards after yesterday's nominations were announced. X-Factor winner Leona Lewis (pictured), the former boy band Take That and flamboyant Lebanese-born chart-topper Mika lead the field with four nominations each. They will all go head-to-head in the Best British Album and Best British Single categories. Guitar bands Arctic Monkeys and Kaiser Chiefs, producer Mark Ronson and singer-songwriter Kate Nash each have three nominations.

Kylie Minogue, who picked up two nominations, will perform at the televised awards which will be presented by Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne on February 20. The recipients of two awards have already been decided: newcomer Adele, 19, has won the critics' choice prize for the artist most likely to make it big in 2008, while Sir Paul McCartney will mark his outstanding contribution award with a medley of his greatest hits to close the show.
