Fayed ‘pressured’ Di’s amnesiac bodyguard
Princess Diana's bodyguard, Trevor Rees, the only survivor of the 1997 car crash that killed Diana, Dodi Fayed and their driver Henri Paul, has said he felt under pressure from Mohamed Fayed to remember events that may or may not have happened. At the London inquest into Diana's death, Rees, who suffered memory loss as a result of the accident, said his amnesia "was obviously frustrating" to the Harrods owner. "He would suggest possibilities to which I would reply, 'That's a possibility.' I did not feel comfortable being in his presence at that time. He was obviously a very upset man."
Fayed, who claims his son Dodi was engaged to Diana, continues to believe that the crash may have been caused by a British secret agent firing a blinding flash of light at the car. He is convinced Rees is faking his memory loss.
Thursday's proceedings at the High Court also focused on Diana's supposed paranoia leading up to her death. Patrick Jephson, the princess's private secretary, said Diana would "pay heed to predictions by astrologers, the more dire the better, particularly where the Prince of Wales was involved. Skiing accidents, helicopter crashes that obstinately refused to befall him." Jephson believed Diana's interest in astrology and a clairvoyant she called 'Fergie's witch woman' fed her sense of paranoia. (Continued below)
