In Brief: TV prankster Jeremy Beadle dies

The popular TV entertainer Jeremy Beadle, who hosted such 'prank' shows as Beadle's About and You've Been Framed, has died aged 59 after a short battle with leukaemia... Russian President Vladimir Putin is in line to become the new chairman of Russia's state energy giant, Gazprom, following his retirement this spring. Putin is believed to be one of 42 applicants and few analysts doubt that his CV will outshine all others.... Some of the final remaining ashes of Mahatma Gandhi are to be laid to rest, 60 years since his death. The Indian Independence campaigner's ashes were to have been scattered in the Ganges soon after his death in 1948 as is tradition, but ended up being placed in urns and distributed around India. His family will scatter one urn’s contents into the Arabian Sea, after intervening to prevent a museum displaying it... California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is to endorse John McCain's bid for the Republican presidential nomination, less than a week before his state holds its primary election... Radiohead and Mary J Blige are among the acts appearing on the 200th episode of TV presenter Jools Holland's BBC music programme Later... with Jools Holland this week. Since it launched in 1992, more than a thousand artists have performed over 2,500 songs...
