Tom Brady loses Super Bowl, but still has Gisele in his sights

Golden boy Tom Brady - aka 'Tabloid Tommy' - was the man to beat at last night's Super Bowl in Arizona. And the New England Patriots quarterback with the Hollywood good looks and the world's best paid supermodel cheering him on, was duly beaten as the New York Giants pulled off one of the biggest shocks in American football history, much to the delight of state senator Hillary Clinton. She was seen high-fiving the kids in the Minneapolis sports bar where she watched the game with her campaign team. "Super Bowl, Super Tuesday, we've got one down, let's get the other," she said. "I'm so excited, I'm thrilled... It was a fabulous game."

Although their defensive team takes most of the credit for the Giants’ victory – sacking Brady a stunning five times in the course of the game – it was Brady’s opposite number, Eli Manning, who won the game with a last minute throw to Plaxico Burress. With seconds left on the clock, his touchdown sealed a 17-14 win.

The two men could not be more different. Despite last night's defeat, Tom Brady, voted Male Athlete of the Year and Best Dressed Man in the World in 2007, is still on his way to becoming one of the most successful quarterbacks of all time. What's more, he's dating Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen (above), squiring her around the hotspots of Paris and Manhattan. He's even earned an audience with the Pope and attended the president's State of the Union address, while his wholesome image was barely dented when he fathered a child with his former girlfriend, actress Bridget Moynahan, last year.

Eli Manning cultivates a more low-key image. "The guy was bred for this," Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce said. "He's about as even-keeled an NFL player as I have ever seen." Or as his father, Archie Manning, a quarterback for New Orleans and Houston in the 1970s and 80s, put it: "Here's the deal with Eli: he doesn't have any ego."

So far, Eli and his fiancee Abby have avoided becoming fodder for the US tabloids. That could all change after last night, as he was named the game's Most Valuable Player. Just like his brother, Peyton Manning, another quarterback, who won MVP at last year's Super Bowl when he led the Indianapolis Colts to victory. Family values beats celebrity vanity: it might have been scripted by a Super Tuesday spin-doctor.
