Ledger’s dad makes promise to Williams

Only weeks after the funeral of Heath Ledger, his family has turned on each other in a bitter row over the actor's will. The dispute erupted after it emerged that Ledger had written his will in 2003 - a year before he met former partner Michelle Williams and subsequently fathered a daughter, Matilda Rose, in 2005 - and left everything to his parents and sister.

Heath’s father Kim Ledger - the calm and composed face of the grieving family when the 28-year-old Brokeback Mountain star died in January - has promised: "Matilda is our absolute priority and Michelle is an integral part of our family... They will be taken care of and that's how Heath would want it to be."

But Heath’s uncles - and Kim’s brothers - Haydn and Mike Ledger have warned Williams that she may have to fight for a slice of the Australian actor's inheritance. They have accused Kim of previously mismanaging their grandfather's estate in 1994, when the three brothers ended up in court over the $A2m fortune. (Continued below)

"I'm concerned for Matilda," Haydn Ledger said. "I have concerns about the distribution of funds. We pointed out to Larry [Michelle Williams's father] to be on his guard. I had to say this about my brother. I don't care any more." Haydn and Mike estimate that Heath’s estate - which includes a New York townhouse and several Australian properties - is worth $A20m.

Meanwhile filming has resumed on Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus which Ledger was working on at the time of his sudden death from a prescription drugs overdose. Gilliam confirmed that Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law will act as "star stand-ins" for Ledger.
