EG’s most wanted man marries in Gibraltar

The day Equatorial Guinea issued an arrest warrant for Mark Thatcher, as reported here last week, Margaret Thatcher's beloved son had just got married again. A year after he divorced his Texan wife Diana, he married Lady Sarah Russell, 43, who divorced her husband, Lord Francis Russell, son of the Duke of Bedford, in February 2006 and has been living with Equatorial Guinea's most wanted man on the island of Gibraltar.

Only a handful of friends attended the register office ceremony. The couple are said to be honeymooning in the Middle East and the Indian Ocean, giving a wide berth to West Africa where the president of the tiny oil-rich state of Equatorial Guinea has ambitions to throw him in jail for 30 years for what he insists was his role in a 2004 coup to overthrow him. Thatcher has always denied his involvement, claiming that he believed a helicopter he helped finance was to be used as an air ambulance.

Thatcher's new wife is the sister of Viscountess Rothermere, whose husband is the proprietor of the Daily Mail.
