In brief: Dakota’s new ‘yob’ role

Dakota Blue Richards (pictured), the 13-year-old star of The Golden Compass, has been accused of being an "inconsiderate yob" after a gang of girls she was with knocked down a snowman in East Sussex last weekend… Aditya Mittal, son and heir to Britain's richest man, the steel billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, has donated £15m to Great Ormond Street children's hospital... Birmingham City managing director Karren Brady and the club's co-owner David Sullivan were arrested on Wednesday on conspiracy charges as part of an investigation into corruption in professional football… FIA president Max Mosley has failed to stop the News of World putting a video clip of him with five prostitutes on their website: a judge said it was pointless to bar footage that had already received massive worldwide coverage… Italy's opposition leader Silvio Berlusconi has claimed that right-wing female politicians are better looking than their left-wing rivals… Ian McEwan has been named author of the year in the Galaxy British Book Awards for his novel On Chesil Beach… Former Observer editor Roger Alton is due to be announced as the new editor of the Independent replacing Simon Kelner who is to take on a new directorial role… Mark E Smith, frontman for the band The Fall, is being investigated by the RSPCA after he boasted of killing two squirrels in music magazine Uncut
