Fashion titans put clash aside for Superheroes gala evening

Anna Wintour and Giorgio Armani appeared to put aside their recent spat - as reported exclusively on The First Post - when they co-chaired a gala event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York to launch the show Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy.

Appearing before the fashion press in Milan in February to announce their sponsorship of Superheroes - which explores the use of comic book imagery and symbolism in modern fashion - Armani shocked fashionistas with a rambling address in which he said he couldn't understand why so many people disliked the American Vogue editor, then spoiling what appeared to be a compliment by saying that he was "indifferent" to her himself.

So had they patched things up? Well, the gala went ahead, with Armani decking himself out as Flash Gordon and Wintour [pictured right], dressed as the Marvel Comics' character Storm (as imagined by Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel, in shimmering silver), suavely greeting guests at the £7,500-a-head bash. "There were bright, warm smiles from both of them, but they came through gritted teeth," said one guest.

Other guests, including Tom Cruise and his wife Katie Holmes, Gisele Bundchen and her boyfriend Tom Brady [pictured above left], Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez, along with co-chairs George Clooney and Julia Roberts, wandered around happily oblivious to the quiet fury of their hosts.
