Spoof memoirs to send up Cherie

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife, Cherie

When Cherie Blair's (not greatly awaited) memoirs appear this autumn they will have to fight for shelf space with a "mirror-like" spoof memoir that aims to send up the former Prime Minister's legendarily humourless spouse. Written by Ivor Baddiel, writer brother of comedian David Baddiel, the book promises, according to a source at the publishers Mainstream, to "contain everything you'll ever need to find out about what goes on behind her polished facade".

The official Blair book, which is being published by Little, Brown, will tell Cherie's full life story, including details of her childhood in working-class Liverpool, life with her father - actor Tony Booth - and her career as a human rights QC.

At the time of the announcement, she let it be known she would be wearing her heart on her sleeve and would attempt to dispel some of the myths about her. She said: "I feel so privileged to have travelled so far. So much has happened - things that my grandma could never have dreamt of - that it feels wrong somehow just to let it pass as if the journey had no meaning". Follow that, Baddiel!
