Mrs Grant hits out at ‘bloodthirsty’ press

Tzofit Grant and husband Avram

It is still uncertain whether Avram Grant will be removed as Chelsea's coach - when asked by by Goal.com he said enigmatically "It's not the last time for Chelsea in this final". However, if Roman Abramovich does pull the trigger his wife, Tzofit Grant (left), will be relieved about the endless press speculation about her husband's future.

In an interview broadcast on Israel's Channel 10 last night, she accused the world's media of "hungry for the raw flesh" of her husband since he replaced Jose Mourhino last September.

Tzofit is well-known in Israel where various TV antics down the years – including drinking her own urine - have led to her being called the "Ruby Wax of Israeli TV". She insisted that, despite the negative attention, her husband had risen above the clamour. "It was clear to me all the time that he was going to win... not (so much on the pitch as off it). It was clear that we would mainly go out to beat the media, the guillotine people, bloodthirsty and hungry for raw flesh. That is how I see the media."

She added that to keep focused and avoid getting upset, the Grants have rarely read the English newspapers during their spell in London - though clearly she looked at them often enough to believe there was a concerted effort in the press to get her husband fired. "Despite the results and the victories, you could see how a man was turned into a target in order to demoralise, to bring about a dismissal, in order to kill (his career)."
