Crooning Carla sings of her love for Nicolas on new album
A song on Carla Bruni's forthcoming album recounts a tale about her love affair with her husband, the French president Nicolas Sarkozy. While the musical composition is not her own – it is a rendition of Bob Dylan's You Belong To Me – the lyrics have been changed and include blatant references to destinations she and Sarkozy visited during their courtship. One couplet goes: "See the pyramids along the Nile… Just remember darling, all the while, you belong to me."
Egypt was the first country the couple visited together before they were married and it was on this trip that the President proposed to the former model (pictured). Bruni-watchers may recall the photographs of them strolling hand in hand and smooching.
Not all the songs on the album, which is yet to be titled but will be released on July 21, strike this gooey note. Other tracks include a piece based on a poem by Atomised author Michel Houellebecq. Another, called My Junk, deals with drug abuse. According to her agent, Bertrand de Labbey, 40-year-old Bruni has composed the music and written the lyrics to most of the songs on the album. "Ninety-five per cent of the songs on the album were written before she met the president," he says.
