Hamilton wins Formula 1 title
Lewis Hamilton has become the youngest Formula 1 world champion ever. The 23-year-old Briton snatched the title from his rival, Ferrari's Felipe Massa, who had just won his home grand prix in Brazil. Hamilton needed to finish at least fifth to overhaul the victorious Massa, and had driven a cautious race in order to achieve it. But a rain shower towards the end of the race caught Massa and Hamilton on slick tyres. Both drivers opted to pit to change to wet tyres. While Massa managed to return to the fray in first place, Hamilton dropped to fifth, behind the Toyota of Timo Glock. With two laps to go Hamilton was then passed by Toro Rosso's Sebastian Vettel. As he came into the pit straight for the final time, sixth-placed Hamilton had lost the world title and Massa and Ferrari were celebrating. It was then that his wet tyres showed their worth and he powered up the hill past Glock's slick-tyred car to cross the line in fifth. (The First Post)
