Fergie always gets his man

Manchester United and Dimitar Berbatov got their wish yesterday when the wantaway Spurs striker finally signed for the Premier League champions in a £30.75m deal that was finalised minutes before the transfer window closed. The on-off transfer had been mooted all summer but almost fell through at the last minute when Manchester City stepped in with a bid of of £34m, which Spurs accepted. On a day of drama Berbatov travelled to Manchester to agree terms with United, even though Spurs had not given him permission to talk to the club. With City waiting in the wings the Bulgarian's move was finally announced at 12.30am on Tuesday. (Mail, Guardian: 02/09/08)
