Pompey close on £11m Wright-Phillips

Long-term Portsmouth target Shaun Wright-Phillips finally looks like moving to Fratton Park when he return from Chelsea's pre-season tour of the Far East and Russia. Harry Redknapp will pay £11m to bring the nimble winger to the south coast, to join a tasty looking attack that already features Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe. Wright-Phillips appears to be surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, where manager Luiz Felipe Scolari has talked about trimming the squad numbers down from the levels that he inherited from Avram Grant and Jose Mourinho. Chelsea paid Manchester City £21m for Wright-Phillips in 2005. (Daily Mail: 25/07/08)
