Window extended after snow

3.40pm: The Premier League has taken the step of allowing transfers that have been held up by the bad weather in England to go through after the official close of the transfer window.

With parts of the country buried under a blanket of snow agents and clubs were having problems finalising deals, and with many workers unable to get into their offices the Premier League was reportedly left with just one person registering player moves on deadline day.

Now, it has been agreed that if there is email confirmation from both sides that a broad agreement was in place at 5pm on February 2 then they will be given more time to finalise the details.

That won't be enough however to save Giovani dos Santos' move to Portsmouth from Spurs, which has dramatically been called off after he took a medical. Although he did not fail the medical Portsmouth said he was not match fit, and, as they need players who are ready for action this week, they would not sign him.
