Obama still ahead in S Carolina; Florida poll gives Romney lead

New polls released by Zogby show Barack Obama’s lead over rival Hillary Clinton slipping by four per cent ahead of Saturday’s primary in South Carolina. The telephone tracking polls put Obama at 38 per cent, now just 13 percentage points ahead of Clinton. Obama’s support appears to have migrated to John Edwards, who has gained six points in the last few days.

Meanwhile in Florida Mitt Romney has just pulled ahead of John McCain according to Rasmussen polls taken throughout the week. Romney has a lead of four points in a state where poll details show the majority of voters believe the economy is the most important issue in the election. Original front runner Rudy Giuliani has slipped to third place with 20 per cent, although he is second among both moderate and conservative voters.
