A romantic comedy centered on the daily lives of five Lebanese women working in Beirut. Nadine Labaki began her career as an actress, with roles in short films. She later appeared in the Lebanese musical Bosta (2005). Caramel marks her debut as a writer and director. The film appeared at the Toronto Film Festival and was Lebanon's official submission for the Best Foreign Language Film category for the 2008 Oscars.
