In 1997, before the visit of the pope to Rio de Janeiro, a police captain is assigned to eliminate a group of drug dealers. Jose Padilha has received nineteen international film award nominations. His features include the documentaries Bus 174 (2002) and Brazil's Vanishing Cowboys (2003). Elite Squad won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Internation Film Festival, 2008. His next film is Garapa, a documentary following the lives of three families in Brazil.
