Two university roommates arrange an illegal abortion in 1980's Romania. After studying English literature at the University of Iasi, Cristian Mungiu worked as a teacher and journalist for some years. Following a series of short films, he wrote and directed the comedy West (2002). Mungiu became the first Romanian director to win the Palm d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, 2007 for 4 Months, 3 Weeks & 2 Days.
